Following the 1967 Six-Day War between Israel and the Arab nations of Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, Israel occupied most of the Palestinian land of the West Bank. This would prove to be the beginning of Israeli settlements, which to this day, are condemned by the UN and the international community.

A Heart in the Shadow is an ongoing photographic reportage that investigates what it means to live under military occupation and explores the different living conditions between the Jewish settlers and the Palestinians. While many right-wing Israelis believe that the West Bank should be totally annexed and in control of Israel, Palestinians are fighting for an independent state without the Israeli influence and occupation. This series explores everyday life on both sides and aims at asking questions, rather than answering them.
